a Capo is an interactive interface made to facilitate music learning through dynamic representations of musical concepts. A graphic notation system was developed for music by associating color and form theory with musical notes, note duration and interpretation style. This new system of representation was based mainly on the works of the referenced authors, Celso Wilmer, Laia Clos and Wassily Kandinsky. The hypothesis was confirmed through testing: the process of interacting with music becomes more captivating with a system which explores the dynamics of music. The way it is represented and perceived is also benefitted by a new musical interface.
I had the honor of being accepted by ESDI’s (Industrial Design College – Escola Superior de Desenho Industrial da UERJ) 2019 Design Week and giving a talk about the possibilities of data visualization applied to music and as a tool in musical education, based around my project Da Capo.
Da Capo was also chosen to enter the 11th Design Week exhibition of Brazil’s most prestigious institution, the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio).
In addition, the project was featured in the 3rd Festival Ecrã for Audiovisual Experimentations in 2019.
